Grandma Chew of Emerald Hill by June Kane

This is a children’s book entitled “Grandma Chew of Emerald Hill” by June Kane. It tells the story of an older cat bringing a younger kitten around the Emerald Hill area of Singapore. The title of the story was directly inspired by Emily of Emerald Hill, and is yet another example of other literary works influenced by the pioneering play. Stella Kon is an award-winning Singapore playwright whose most important work was the 1983 one-woman play, Emily of Emerald Hill. She is also a descendent of two prominent Peranakan philanthropists, Tan Tock Seng and Dr Lim Boon Keng.
