Money, Money, Money – Calypso/The Laughing Samba

The songs on this record are by Edmund Ros and his rumba band. Ros was a Trinidadian musician who made his career in Britain. His band was formed in 1940 and signed with Decca records in 1944. Decca record company was established in 1929. Music from England and America were gaining popularity amongst Peranakans in Singapore and the Straits during the early 20th century. Musical bands and troupes were formed during this period and they would perform at celebratory occasions organized by Peranakans such as birthdays and weddings.
