Embroidered Panel

Calligraphy is one of the four basic Islamic decorative forms; also the most highly esteemed. The Arabic script, the script of the Quran, in form lends itself to the decorative and ornamental. While calligraphy was primarily decorative, it is also endowed with talismanic properties. This is one such example of Islamic calligraphy using gold metal thread on green velvet in the shape of a medallion; the border filled in with silver metal thread forms a crescent like shape.
