Crib sheet

This silk sheet finely inscribed in black and red ink on both sides in minute characters (known as ‘fly’s head’ script) contains text from the Analects of Confucius. Student candidates smuggled crib sheets such as this into imperial civil service examinations to save them the trouble of learning lengthy texts by rote.
