Crossing

Born in 1950 in Sagay City, Negros Occidental in Philippines, Nunelucio Alvarado received formal training in fine arts and advertising. He was a recipient of the Thirteen Artists Award in 1992, and twice a winner of the Philip Morris Art Awards (1997, 1999). Alvarado is known for his social realistic works through which he speaks for and represents the voiceless majority, victims of oppression and inequality. Living amongst peasants, sakadas (migrant workers in sugarcane fields), fishermen and vendors, Alvarado’s works attempt to portray the needs and problems faced by these masses.
