A small cart is parked at the corner of Boon Teck Road, offering water to any thirsty passer-by for free. It is a legacy of past times when it was difficult to find drinking water. This service was provided during colonial times to poorer folks, especially the rickshaw pullers, trishaw riders and bullock cart drivers.
There are two containers in this kiosk: one with drinking water and the other with a tea called Su Teh in the Teochew dialect. Imagine what a welcoming sight this water kiosk must have been for the thirsty labourers! So, if you are ever in Balestier and suffering from a parched throat, fret not! There is always a water kiosk to help you out.
